Description:
The University of Sussex will offer scholarships to refugees and asylum seekers enrolling in undergraduate and graduate programs.
The University of Sussex has been recognized as a University of Sanctuary, in recognition of its efforts to welcome and support forced migrants. This Article 26 Scholarship is one way that the university supports students who are unable to receive student loans.
Funding partners: The Article 26 Scholarship is funded in part by the generosity of donors to the Sussex Fund.
Type of award: Full tuition fee waiver and maintenance award
Amount: Full international tuition fee waiver plus £11,500 maintenance
Number of scholarships available: Master’s degree scholarship and two undergraduate scholarships
Deadline: April 25, 2021
Eligibility:
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
– Be an asylum-seeker; or
– Have been granted temporary form of leave to remain as a result of an asylum application (e.g. limited leave to remain, humanitarian protection) and not be eligible for funding from Student Finance England; or
– Be a partner/child of an asylum seeker or an unaccompanied asylum-seeking child; and
– Have a household income of under £25,000; and
– Be unable to access UK government student financial support because of their current immigration status
Preference will be given to applicants that have not previously obtained a Masters degree.
The successful applicant will need to ensure they have made plans or raised sufficient funds to cover any remaining costs of living not covered by the maintenance portion of the scholarship, for the duration of their degree.
