The Khaled Bichara Scholarship supports Egyptian students who wish to study an undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, entrepreneurship, or data science at the American University in Cairo. The scholarship covers full tuition fees in addition to living expenses.

Applicants must have an exceptional secondary school academic record. They must reside and currently be attending school in Upper Egypt, including the governorates of Assuit, Sohag, Luxor, Aswan, Qena, Beni Suef, and Minia. Candidates must independently apply to American University in Cairo, and being shortlisted for the scholarship does not guarantee acceptance at AUC. The late Khaled Bichara’s family has established the scholarship to commemorate his legacy. Kahled Bichara (1971-2020) was an Egyptian businessman and entrepreneur whose career encompassed leadership roles at numerous multinational telecommunications and investment firms. He played a pivotal role in the merger of VEON and Wind Telecom to create the world’s sixth-largest telecommunications carrier.

Candidates must:

  • Be a high school student who is currently enrolled in the last year of Thanaweya Amma or in STEM schools in the academic year 2023-2024.
  • Reside and attend school in Upper Egypt, including the following governorates: Assuit, Sohag, Luxor, Aswan, Qena, Beni Suef and Minia.
  • Have an outstanding secondary school academic record.
  • Pass the IELTS, TOEFL, or DUOLINGO tests, with a minimum band score of 5.5 and writing score of 5.5, total score of 62, and writing score of 17, completed no more than two years prior to the term.
  • Plan to study one of the following majors: entrepreneurship, computer science, computer engineering, or data science.

The following documents must be uploaded:

  • A recent photograph of the applicant.
  • A scanned copy of the applicant’s national ID.
  • A scanned copy of the parent or legal guardian’s ID.
  • A scanned copy of a certificate from the applicant’s secondary school, demonstrating that the applicant has completed two years of high school in the institution and is currently in the process of completing the third year. The scholarship accepts either one certificate for each year or one certificate for the three years combined.
  • A transcript indicating the student’s grades in Secondary One and Secondary Two.
  • Financial statement(s) for the past six months for the parent’s bank/post savings accounts, loans, and such, if any.
  • TOEFL/IELTS/Duo Lingo certificate.
  • Scanned copies of certificates of achievement, completion, appreciation, or any other relevant academic recognition.
