The Jusoor-AUB Scholarship will award two scholarships to Syrian or Palestinian-Syrian students who reside in Lebanon and have been admitted to a computer science bachelor’s degree programme at the American University of Beirut, beginning in the 2024–2025 academic year.

The scholarship will cover the full cost of studying at AUB and also provide additional discretionary funding. For details of AUB’s undergraduate programme in computer science, see the department’s webpage here.

Jusoor’s scholarship programme looks for people with academic achievement, personal achievement, and leadership potential who have financial need and are committed towards rebuilding Syria. Scholarship candidates must show evidence of academic excellence through their transcripts, references, experience, and the potential to succeed on their chosen course.

Jusoor (meaning “bridges” in Arabic) is an international non-governmental organization founded in 2011 with the mission of maximizing the potential of Syrian youth through education.

Eligibility 

Applicants must:

  • Be Syrian or Palestinian-Syrian holding a Syrian travel document, be living in Lebanon at the time of selection, and previously lived in Syria continuously prior to the start of the conflict.
  • Have a strong academic record. 
  • Meet the admissions requirements of AUB (including language requirements).
  • Have a strong record of leadership and community engagement, as demonstrated through volunteer and/or work experience.
  • Demonstrate willingness and intent to contribute to the redevelopment of Syria and impact the global Syrian community.
  • Be willing to engage with the Jusoor and university communities. 
  • Be admitted to AUB and qualify for financial aid from AUB. 

How to Apply

Candidates must apply to American University of Beirut separately before applying for the scholarship. For information about the university’s admissions process and requirements, visit the admissions office’s webpage here. Visit the admissions log-in page to create a PIN and begin your application. The deadline for applications is 18 December 2023.

Applicants who are admitted to AUB and meet Jusoor’s eligibility criteria will receive a Jusoor scholarship application in May/June 2024.

If you are invited to complete a Jusoor application, you will need to provide:

  • Copy of passport or national ID.
  • Copy of transcripts (official if available).
  • A CV.
  • An academic letter of recommendation (from a teacher).
  • A professional reference (from your current or previous work or volunteer experience).
  • A copy of your TOEFL or IELTS scores if you’ve taken either exam. If not Jusoor will offer a stipend for the exam fees.
