The Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarships (AGRTPS) are available to international students who seek to undertake a higher degree by research at Flinders University, in Adelaide.

The scholarships include an international tuition fee offset, a living stipend, and Overseas Health Care coverage. Successful applicants must undertake full time study and be commencing a higher degree by research (Ph.D. or Master of Arts by research) in Australia for the first time.

The Scholarships Committee will select award holders based on academic merit and research potential according to the university’s ranking scheme for postgraduate research scholarship applications. Please see the Conditions of Award for full selection criteria.

Benefits

  • A stipend of $33,000 (Australian dollars) a year.
  • An offset for tuition fees for up to 4 years.
  • Up to $1,485 (AUD) to assist with relocation costs and airfares.

Duration

  • Up to three years for a research doctoral degree, with a possible extension.
  • Up to two years for a research master’s degree.

Eligibility

Candidates must:

  • Be a citizen of any overseas country except New Zealand.
  • Intend to commence full-time study for a higher degree by research in Australia, and enroll in an area of research concentration.
  • Satisfy all entry requirements, including English-language proficiency levels.
  • Have submitted an application for admission to a higher degree by research course at Flinders University, or already have a valid offer.

Required Documents

Please note that all of the following documents must be uploaded via the application portal. Documents should be in English, saved as PDF files, and named with your family name and a document name.

  • Evidence of a verbal commitment from a member of the academic staff at Flinders University who will supervise your research.
  • Up to five publications, including coversheets, to be considered for admission to Flinders University. Candidates with more than five publications should choose their top five after consulting with their supervisor.
  • Certified copies of all university-level academic transcripts, translated into English.
  • A research proposal of 500 words outlining the problem, hypothesis or question you will study, and the methodology or approach you will use.
  • Copies of the Confidential Report forms that you have forwarded to two appropriate academic referees. The referees should have informed personal and professional knowledge of your academic ability and must submit their reports to [email protected] by the application closing date.
  • An updated CV that includes work experience, research experience, and a list of all publications.

How to Apply

  1. First apply for admission to a higher degree by research course at Flinders University. International applicants should apply via Studylink. Details about international admission can be found here.
  2. To apply for scholarship, activate your Flinders account using the Student ID provided at time of registration. You will receive a Flinders Authentication Name (FAN), which you can use to submit your scholarship application via the Flinders dashboard (OKTA).
