Monitoring Quality in Arab Higher Education
The National Council of Higher Education and Scientific Research grants licenses to public and private universities. The council is affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The council holds meetings a maximum of twice a year. The council is responsible for laying out general policies, plans and programs for higher education and scientific research within the general policy of the government, and supervising implementation of those policies.
The Higher Corporation for Evaluation and Accreditation supervises and evaluates the performance of higher education and scientific research institutions and reviews their reports.
Thirty-two public universities and 73 private universities and colleges operate in Sudan, according to the ministry’s statistics for 2016.
