Join a Panel Discussion on How Arab Academics Can Support the Palestinian Cause

Al-Fanar Media will host an online panel discussion on Monday, December 11, on the theme, “How Can Arab Academics Support the Palestinian Cause?”

This webinar will be conducted via Zoom and will also be broadcast live, starting at 7 p.m. Cairo time, on Al-Fanar Media’s Facebook page. You can register to attend and participate here.

The panel will discuss several topics, including: How can we communicate the real roots of the Palestinian cause? How can Arab academics portray the real features of the Palestinian cause in the minds of Arab students so that they become ambassadors to confront Israeli deception? How can Arab academics advocate for the Palestinian cause in international forums? And, How can we convey the Palestinian voice to the world?

An elite group of Arab academics will speak on the panel. The speakers include Hanan Youssef, a professor of media and dean of the College of Language and Communication at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport; Maha Bali, a professor of practice at the Center for Learning and Teaching at the American University in Cairo; Lina Meari, an assistant professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Palestine’s Birzeit University; and Amjad Abu El Ezz, a professor of political science at Palestine’s Arab American University.

A moderator of the panel, Mohammad El-Hawary, Al-Fanar Media’s editor-in-chief, said: “Communicating the story is one thing, and conveying the origin of the story, its background and contexts is another thing.”

“By doing so, you will turn into an ambassador for conveying the hidden reality,” he added. “This role becomes more important in times of crises and conflicts. When it comes to the cause of all causes, the Palestinian one, the role expected of Arab academics and students becomes greater than ever before.”

Speakers in the webinar will discuss “the role of Arab academics in supporting the Palestinian cause in global circles, and in the minds and consciences of Arab students, as part of our role in empowering Arab youth and eradicating media literacy, to which we, with our partners, pay great attention,” El-Hawary said. “This interest has recently been translated into a joint project with the Ford Foundation, which aims to eradicate media illiteracy among Arab university students.”

This webinar is part of the Al-Fanar Media panel discussion series, which hosts experts and academics, from various fields, to discuss higher education-related topics and issues and the needs of the labour market in the Arab world.
